The spectators in the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore were greeted with batting specials from Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored individual hundreds, helping the side defeat Afghanistan by 89 runs in the fourth match of the Asia Cup 2023.

Mehidy, Shanto delivers smashing performance

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh made a few changes in their XI that lost to Sri Lanka a few days ago. Tanzim Hasan was dropped and Mehidy was made to open. The move paid dividends as he smashed a rollicking hundred, although soon got retired hurt.

The other opener Mohammad Naim also helped Bangladesh in the run-flow as his crucial 32-ball 28 set the tone for what was about to come.

The real deal for Bangladesh came at number four. Shanto got demoted a spot but like Mehidy's case, it too worked for the Tigers, who then witnessed a 215-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Shanto too scored a hundred and his match-winning innings ended via a run-out.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan also played their roles to perfection, leading Bangladesh to 334/5 with their crucial cameos.

Shoriful, Taskin demolish Afghanistan

Although the target was already a mountain to climb, Afghanistan kept the wickets in hand almost till 35 overs and there seemed a remote possibility of them doing the impossible with round-about 10 runs per over per over needed in the final 15.

However, Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed shut down whatever little chances remained for Hashmatullah Shahidi and Co. From 193/4 in 36 overs, Afghanistan got thrown down to 245/10.

While Taskin ended with a four-for, Shoriful took three wickets.

For Afghanistan. opener Ibrahim Zadran top-scored with 75 runs.
