Indian cricket great Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun Tendulkar made a return in style with an impressive show for Goa in the Dr.K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament. Arjun played his first competitive game in seven months and took a wicket with his first ball of the match before going on to record an impressive five-wicket haul.
Facing Maharashtra, Arjun struck right away by dismissing opener Anirudha Sabale off the very first ball of the match.
He followed it up by trapping Sabale’s partner, Mahesh Mhaske, LBW, giving Goa a dream start. With Maharashtra reeling, Arjun came back to shatter Digvijay Patil’s stumps, reducing the opposition to 15/4.
Arjun Tendulkar Bags Five-Wicket-Haul Vs Maharashtra
Maharashtra’s middle order tried to resist, but Arjun Tendulkar wasn’t done. He dismissed Mehul Patel, who top-scored with 54, before removing Nadeem Shaikh to complete his five-wicket-haul. Maharashtra were bowled out for just 136 runs, with Arjun finishing as Goa’s star bowler.
Arjun then showcased his batting skills. At No. 9, he scored useful 36 runs from 44 balls, seeing Goa to a good score of 333 runs. Abhinav Tejrana (77), Darshan Misal (61) and Mohit Redkar (58) also chipped in with the bat for Goa.
That being said, this performance was worth more than statistics; it was evidence that Arjun is putting effort to make a name for himself beyond the shadow of his famous father.
Having played for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and earlier represented Maharashtra in domestic cricket, Arjun’s move to Goa in 2022 has given him more opportunities to prove his talent.
Arjun’s Previous Fifer In First Class Match
It is interesting that, back in November 2024, Arjun Tendulkar also had a quite similar dream spell for Goa against Arunachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy Plate match at Porvorim in November 2024.
The left-arm pacer devastated Arunachal's batting in the first innings with outstanding figures of 5/25 in 9 overs of which 3 were maiden.
He struck early, getting opener Nabam Hachang for a duck, and then took four more vital wickets to leave Arunachal in tatters. It was Tendulkar's best innings in the red-ball game at that time, and it reflected his rhythm, accuracy, and capacity to hassle batters.
