India and England are in the middle of the fifth and final Test of the five-match series, and it has been a hard-fought contest with the final Test also going right down to the wire.
The series has been named the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, and batters have dominated it. It all started with some big scores in the initial two Test matches, and batters from both sides have been fantastic. As a result, nine batters have scored more than 400 runs in the series, which is the most in the history of Test cricket.
Shubman Gill Leads Batters Charge In Series; Joe Root Takes Top Position For England
Previously, eight batters have scored 400-plus runs in a single series twice, once in the 1975/76 series between Australia and the West Indies, and secondly in the 1993 Ashes. Out of the nine batters, five are from the visiting team, India. Shubman Gill leads the pack with 754 runs while KL Rahul follows him with 532 runs. Third in the list is Ravindra Jadeja with 516 runs, while Root is fourth and the leading run-scorer for England with 484 runs.
Rishabh Pant, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook and Yashasvi Jaiswal are other batters to score over 400 runs in the series, while Ollie Pope and Stokes have scored over 300 runs.
Most batters scoring 400+ runs in a Test series:
9 - India in England, 2025*
8 - West Indies in Australia, 1975/76
8 - The Ashes, 1993
Also, almost all games of the series have been high-scoring. It looked like the Oval Test was moving in a different direction with both teams struggling with the bat in the first innings, but the batters have stepped up again in the second outing, and England are now on their way to chase down a record target of 374.
