Joe Root continues to be the main man for England in a tricky run-chase vs India as the experienced batter stood tall in a chase of 374, and in the process, etched his name in the history books. England needed their best player to steer them in the fourth innings, and Root raised his hands and took matters under his control.

In the 40th over of the England innings, Root punished Mohammed Siraj with a boundary through the gully region, and created history as he became the first cricketer to score 6,000 runs in World Test Championship (WTC) history.

Before the start of the Oval Test, Root had 5946 runs to his name in the WTC, and he added a further 54 runs to bag a magnificent feat in Test cricket. Interestingly, the next best batter is Steve Smith, who has 4278 runs, 172 runs less than Root.
