India A Women sealed the three-match ODI series 2-0 with a thrilling two-wicket victory over Australia A Women in the second ODI at Brisbane on Friday, August 15. Chasing 266, the visitors crossed the finish line in the final over, with Prema Rawat holding her nerve in a tense finish. Let's take a look at how the match panned out at the Ian Healy Oval Stadium.
Healy Gives Hope With Gritty 91 For Australia A
Australia A’s innings was headlined by skipper Alyssa Healy’s commanding knock of 91 off 87 balls, studded with eight fours and three sixes. She anchored the innings from the top, building key partnerships despite losing opening partner Tahlia Wilson early for 8.
Rachel Trenaman (24), Tahlia McGrath (15) and Anika Learoyd (9) chipped in, but Healy’s dismissal at 155/5 in the 30th over halted the momentum. Kim Garth’s unbeaten 41 off 45 balls, along with a quick 18 from Georgia Prestwidge, pushed the total to 265/9. Minnu Mani was the pick of the bowlers for India A with 3/46 in her 10 overs, while Saima Thakor claimed 2/30.
India Stutters While Chasing
In reply, India A suffered early setbacks. Shafali Verma’s poor run continued as she fell for just 4, and Dhara Gujjar was run out without scoring, leaving the visitors 20/2 in the fifth over. Yastika Bhatia led the recovery with a fluent 66 off 71 balls, hitting nine boundaries. She added a vital 68-run stand with skipper Radha Yadav (60 off 78) to steady the chase.
Lower Middle Order Holds The Fort For India To Seal Win
Even after Bhatia’s departure at 151/5, Radha Yadav kept the innings on course with Tanuja Kanwar, who made a composed 50 off 57 balls. Kanwar’s partnership of 68 with Prema Rawat (3* off 33) proved decisive. With five runs needed from the last over, Rawat kept her cool to guide India A to 266/8 in 49.5 overs.
Australia A’s bowling effort was led by Ella Hayward (2/57) and Georgia Prestwidge (2/68), while Amy Louise Edgar also took 2/55. However, they couldn’t stop India A from scripting a series-clinching win with a game to spare.
The final ODI will be played at the same venue on August 17, but the result will be a dead rubber after India A’s dominant showing in the first two matches. After the ODI series is completed, India A Women will face Australia A Women for an unofficial Test.
