KL Rahul lost 2nd toss of the series [Source- JioHotstar]
In a rarest of rare occurrences, India lost their 20th toss in a row in a One Day International cricket as they face South Africa in the 2nd match of the ongoing series in Raipur. According to the numbers, a team losing 20 tosses in a row has a one-in-a-million (1/1000000) chance of happening. Notably, this is also the fourth toss of South Africa's tour of India, including Tests, and the visitors have won all of them.
When was the last time India won the toss in ODIs?
The last incident when India won the toss in ODI cricket was in the India vs New Zealand World Cup 2023 semi-final at Wankhede.
The losing streak began on the day of the same World Cup final against Australia, which continued during the tours to South Africa and Sri Lanka, against England at home, and during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Australia earlier in October, and now against SA. During this period, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill have led India.
Captain KL Rahul also jokingly revealed to Ravi Shastri about secretly practising the tosses and that he has been feeling the pressure to win one, as he laughed it off.
As the Proteas ask India to bat first once again, here's how the fans and some known cricket personalities on the internet reacted.
Some saw the funny side of the incredible losing streak, while some are left confused about how it is even possible for a team to lose this many tosses.
"India should not come for toss, just let the opponent decide what they want to do. Why waste time 😂🙈 #INDvsSA," wrote the former cricketer Sreevats Goswami on his Twitter/X handle.
"I love that we have learnt from our mistakes and are saving our toss luck for WC 2027 Final," said @CSKian716.

"20 consecutive toss losses in ODIs. This are some records. All hail Indian captains," said @LoyalSachinFan.
To India's respite, they have managed to do well despite this poor luck with the coin tosses, winning the Champions Trophy earlier this year, while only dropping two bilateral series in Sri Lanka and Australia in this period.
During the first ODI, the toss worked in their favour, as they clinched the match by 17 runs in Ranchi.
