In the latest development, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has agreed to the terms laid by the management as the veteran batter is set to represent Delhi in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. Kohli’s availability was confirmed by DDCA President Rohan Jaitley.

For the first time in 15 years, Kohli will play in India’s premium domestic 50-overs competition as the Vijay Hazare Trophy commences on December 24, with Delhi taking on Andhra Pradesh in the opening day fixture.

“Yes, Virat Kohli has confirmed his availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He is available and cannot wait to represent the team. He is likely to play three matches for us,” Jaitley told Hindustan Times.

Kohli surrenders to Gambhir's demands

Despite performing heavily in the ODIs this year and winning games for India in the Champions Trophy, Kohli’s ODI place was under scrutiny as head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar wanted him and Rohit to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to prove their credentials for future ODI selections.

Earlier, there were reports that while Rohit had agreed to play for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Kohli went against Gambhir’s decision, and was not too keen on playing in the tournament. However, all the rumors have been quashed as the veteran batter is reportedly ready to play for his state team and get some much-needed practice.

When was the last time Kohli played in Vijay Hazare Trophy?

The former India captain last played in the competition in 2010, when he played for Delhi against Services. By 2010, Kohli was still a newcomer in the side, as he scored truckloads of runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to earn his place in the Indian side.

His presence will boost the Delhi team who are having a horror Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and struggled in the Ranji Trophy campaign as well.
