India’s young batting guns Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal were involved in a brief mix-up with each other during the earlier stages of their second-wicket partnership on Day 2. Shortly after the arrival of Gill into the crease, the 25-year-old took a hesitant single with his younger batting partner off Australian captain Pat Cummins.

Following their escape, Shubman was spotted passing on a word to Jaiswal in Hindi.

Batting at number three, Shubman Gill arrived to the crease following the early dismissal of Indian opener KL Rahul in just the fourth over of the innings on Day 2 of the Adelaide Test. A couple of overs later, Gill worked Australian skipper Pat Cummins behind square for a seemingly easy single.

While Gill confidently jetted off for a single, his hesitant partner Yashasvi Jaiswal initially called no before eventually completing the run. Following their escape, Gill asked Jaiswal to trust his calls in taking quick singles. Interestingly, the 25-year-old was heard passing down his instruction to the youngster in Hindi. He said:

“Aisa mat kar tu, main tujhe sahi call hi duga.” (Don’t do this. I will give you right calls for a run).

Nonetheless, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s resistance did not last long as he nicked one towards Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey off Scott Boland just a couple of overs later in the innings. The dashing left-handed opener listed four boundaries during his short 31-ball stay at the crease that yielded 24 quick runs for the visitors.

Earlier in the match, Australia hauled 337 to mount a 157-run first innings lead over India by the halfway stage of Day 2. Travis Head clobbered a near run-a-ball 140 to top score for the hosts while Marnus Labuschagne cracked 64 from 126 balls.
