Afghanistan A will take on Oman A in Match 2 of the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023 on Thursday, July 13th at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground in Colombo. This is the fifth edition of the eight nation continental tournament and both the teams will be looking forward to kick-off their campaign on a positive note.


Team Preview

Afghanistan A

Afghanistan A had to return from the semi-final stage in the last edition of the tournament as they came short to tackle host Bangladesh, who advanced through to the final. They will be keen to go one step further this time and go on to win the championship. 

The 17-member Afghan squad will be led by 24-year-old left-handed batter Shahidullah Kamal, who has represented Afghanistan in one Test and an ODI. He was also part of the Afghanistan squad which took part in the last edition of the tournament. 

The likes of Noor Ali Zadran, Sharafuddin Ashraf will be in action as well, including U19 star Izharulhaq Naveed.


Oman A

Meanwhile, Oman A have included most of the players who took part in the recently concluded World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. They finished sixth in the World Cup Qualifier and will now come up against the top emerging Asian teams in Sri Lanka. 

Aqib Ilyas, who led Oman in the final two Super Six matches in the Qualifier, has been selected to lead the Oman A side in this tournament. 

Top performers from the Qualifier like Ayaan Khan and Fayyaz Butt will be in action as well. However, senior players like skipper Zeeshan Maqsood, Mohammad Nadeem and Bilal Khan have been rested.

Pitch Report: The surface at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground is generally a balanced one for 50-over matches. Batting first might be a tricky option early on this fresh surface as both seamers and spinners can get uneven bounce which will make life difficult for the batters. Batting will get easier with time as the game goes on. The first innings score is expected to be around 250. Team winning the toss should bowl first.
