Australian batter Travis Head, after putting in a stunning performance in the recently concluded third Ashes 2023 Test against England at Headingley, has surged to a career-high second place in the ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings. The southpaw is hot on the heels of New Zealand talisman, Kane Williamson who is at the pinnacle of the rankings.

ICC Test rankings for batters sees major reshuffle

The 29-year-old's batting brilliance has been on full display throughout the series, scoring 266 runs at an impressive average of 44.33 and nearly clinching a third straight Ashes victory for Australia.

This latest development signals a significant reshuffle within the upper stratum of the ICC Test batting rankings. Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam has vaulted three spots to secure third place, outpacing Australian batting mainstays, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, who have been nudged down to fourth and fifth, respectively. England's Joe Root finds himself in the sixth position after dropping one spot.

England had a few reasons to rejoice after the nail-biting victory in Leeds. Prodigious batter, Harry Brook elevated his standing by a position to reach 12th place following his match-winning half-century in the second innings that helped the hosts chase a stiff target of 251. England captain, Ben Stokes, also had reason to celebrate as he moved up five places to rank 18th in ICC Test rankings for batters.

While the batters made great progress, the English bowlers too made significant strides in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers. Veteran bowler Stuart Broad climbed four places to the sixth spot, while Mark Wood, following his "Player of the Match" performance against Australia, made a sizeable nine-place leap to the 26th position.

As far as Australia are concerned, speedster Mitchell Starc's commendable seven-wicket haul in the Headingley Test propelled him three places upwards, landing him at 11th in the bowling rankings.

Meanwhile, the upcoming fourth Ashes 2023 Test presents both teams with another chance to improve their rankings as they go head-to-head once again. Set to take place at Old Trafford in Manchester, the penultimate Test is scheduled to commence on July 19th.
