Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif recently shared his thoughts on the potential availability of Rohit Sharma in the IPL 2025 mega auction, suggesting that RCB should make a bold move to acquire Rohit as their captain. Rohit, one of the most successful captains in IPL history, is currently with MI, but speculations surrounding his future in the team have sparked discussion.

IPL 2025 mega auction will go on floors soon after franchises confirm their retention list on October 31. Ever since the IPL governing council released the retention plans, rumours surrounding player availability have been rife.

Mumbai Indians, particularly, will struggle to retain former captain Rohit Sharma due to a strained relationship. Rohit was displeased with Hardik Pandya replacing him as captain in IPL 2024, leading to internal rifts.

And if Rohit Sharma makes himself available for the IPL 2025 mega auction, Mohammad Kaif urged Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to make a strong move.

"RCB should take this chance. Somehow convince Rohit and make him the captain. He might not score that much as a batter, he scores forties and fifties, but I believe Rohit knows how to build an XI very well," Kaif said.

Kaif opined that RCB, which has long been searching for an IPL title, could greatly benefit from Rohit's leadership. Despite Rohit's occasional struggles with consistency in his batting, Kaif advocated his tactical brilliance.

"RCB will gain because of it. Their title drought can get over. He knows how to get the job done by placing his arm around the players' shoulders. He knows tactical moves, where each player needs to be fit in the XI. I believe if RCB get a chance, take Rohit Sharma as a captain," he added.

RCB has often been criticised for their inability to maintain balance within their squad, and Kaif believes that the Indian captain's presence could help address these issues.

Will RCB retain just one player?

RP Singh sparked a widespread discussion when he suggested that RCB could enter IPL 2025 mega auction with just one retention i.e Virat Kohli. 

He believes RCB can use RTM cards in the auction to bring back key players such as Rajat Patidar and Mohammad Siraj for a cheaper price. Notably, RCB are likely to part ways with Faf du Plessis in search for a change in leadership.
