When the chips were down, South African captain Temba bavuma stood tall and battled injury and immense pain to guide his team to their first-ever ICC trophy in 27 years. At the forefront of the win were captain Bavuma and centurion Aiden Markram. The skipper led from the front with a gutsy knock of 66, but Markram took it one level up as he smashed a match-winning 136 and helped the team win the coveted trophy.
