The Women’s Premier League 2026 has heated up, and New Zealand all-rounder Sophie Devine has been showing her true form with the bat in this edition already.

Against Delhi Capitals Women, Sophie Devine, who is representing the Gujarat Giants Women have racked up a massive total of 95 runs, showing off her elemental form ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup.

While the GGW opener neared her maiden WPL 2026 century, Nandani Sharma became the hindrance despite Sneh Rana getting beaten black and blue. Though Devine was five-runs short of the century, the Kiwi powerhouse laid a very strong foundation for her team.

Sophie Devine explodes with form ahead of T20 World Cup

Sophie Devine was explosive right from the start. She scored 95 runs off just 42 deliveries, smashing eight sixes and seven boundaries at a staggering strike rate of 226.19. Her heroics made her enter a list that she already owns as she gained another position on the crowns of the players who had the highest individual score in WPL.

Devine assaults Sneh Rana to score most runs in an over in WPL

However, the main talking point of Sophie Devine’s innings was her unusually brutal assault on Sneha Rana. The Indian spinner, known for her craft and clever variations, was taken apart by Devine, who struck the ball to all parts of the ground. Bowling the final over of the powerplay, Rana conceded 32 runs in the sixth over, with every run coming off Devine’s bat.

This led Sophie Devine crack up a rare record to top the list of the most runs scored by a batter in an over in WPL.

Most Runs Scored by a Batter in an over in WPL:

  • 32 runs – Sophie Devine (Delhi Capitals) vs Gujarat Giants, Navi Mumbai, 2026 (Tonight)*
  • 26 runs – Sneh Rana (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) vs UP Warriorz, Lucknow, 2025
  • 24 runs – Sophie Devine (Royal Challengers Bangalore) vs Gujarat Giants, Brabourne, 2023
  • 24 runs – Harmanpreet Kaur (Gujarat Giants) vs Mumbai Indians, Delhi, 2024

The over began with a boundary, followed by a second delivery that resulted in a dropped catch by Marizanne Kapp, giving Devine a crucial lifeline. She made full use of the opportunity, hammering consecutive sixes for the remainder of the over.

The onslaught dramatically lifted the run rate from 9.60 to 13.33, as the Gujarat Giants raced to 80 runs by the end of the powerplay.

The near-miss of the WPL century

Sneha Rana, who was an integral part of India’s World Cup campaign with seven wickets, appeared taken aback by Devine’s extraordinary hitting.

Had Devine gone on to score a century, she would have ended a two-and-a-half-month wait for a hundred, with her previous century coming against Australia Women on October 1 during the Women’s World Cup 2025.
