Chennai Super Kings have received encouraging signs ahead of the IPL 2026 season as their all-rounder Jamie Overton continues to deliver impressive performances in the ongoing BBL 2025–26.

The English cricketer showcased his excellent form during Adelaide Strikers’ match against Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, December 31.

Jamie Overton makes CSK fans happy

The 31-year-old all-rounder played a key role with the ball. Representing Adelaide Strikers, Overton finished with outstanding bowling figures of 3 wickets for 19 runs in his four overs. After Strikers chose to bowl first, he immediately put pressure on the Heat batters with his pace and accuracy.

Overton struck early by dismissing Jack Wildermuth, who managed only 5 runs. Soon after, he continued his attacking spell by removing Hugh Weibgen, who had looked settled on 28 runs.

Later, Overton claimed his third wicket by dismissing Brisbane Heat captain Xavier Bartlett, who scored 19 runs off just 10 balls. These timely breakthroughs played a major role in restricting the Heat to a low total.

This performance is particularly good news for CSK, who bought Overton for ₹1.50 crore in the 2024 IPL auction and later retained him. CSK’s decision to show faith in the fast-bowling all-rounder now seems well justified, as he has been performing consistently in different conditions.

Looking at his overall BBL campaign so far, Overton has taken six wickets in four innings. In addition, he has contributed with the bat, scoring 51 runs in 3 innings at a healthy strike rate of 134.21.

Moreover, Overton was also in excellent form before the BBL. During England’s ODI series against New Zealand, he scored 156 runs in 3 innings and picked up 3 wickets, proving his ability to perform at the international level as well. All these performances suggest that he is currently in top form.

As for the match itself, Brisbane Heat were bowled out for 121 runs in 19.4 overs. Matthew Kuhnemann fought hard with an unbeaten 31, while Hugh Weibgen added 28 runs.
