Perth Scorchers Players Push Uber (Source:@7cricket, x.com)
A bizarre and humorous incident involving Perth Scorchers players ahead of their Big Bash League (BBL) 2025–26 clash against Sydney Thunder went viral on Tuesday, December 30.
Just hours before the match, four Scorchers players, Laurie Evans, Ashton Agar, Aaron Hardie and young pacer Mahli Beardman, found themselves in an unexpected situation while travelling to the stadium.
Uber breakdown leaves Scorchers players stranded
The players were on their way to the stadium in an Uber when the vehicle suddenly broke down mid-journey. With no immediate assistance available and time ticking away before the game, the players were left stranded on the roadside.
In a moment that quickly spread across social media, the four cricketers were seen stepping out of the SUV and pushing it in an attempt to get it started again.
After several efforts, the car eventually restarted, allowing the players to hop back in and continue their journey to the ground. The video of the incident was later shared online and quickly went viral.
The unusual episode was also discussed during the live television broadcast. Laurie Evans later shared the story in a light-hearted manner with commentators, who confirmed the details on air.
Ashton Turner’s knock powers Scorchers to massive total
Asked to bat first, the Perth Scorchers produced a dominant batting performance and made a strong total of 202 for the loss of eight wickets.
The innings was held together by captain Ashton Turner, who played one of the finest knocks of the season. Turner walked in when Perth were struggling at 3 for 34 in the sixth over and completely changed the momentum of the innings. He smashed an unbeaten 99 off just 41 balls, hitting eight sixes and eight fours.
Unfortunately for Turner, he narrowly missed out on a century when the last recognised batter, Ashton Agar, was dismissed, leaving the skipper stranded on 99 not out.
The innings placed Turner in one of the most unfortunate groups in BBL history, becoming only the fourth player to be left unbeaten on 99.
Perth Scorchers' dominant bowling display seals big win
The Perth Scorchers backed up their batting effort with an equally impressive bowling performance. Sydney Thunder got off to a reasonable start, with captain David Warner scoring 25 and Matthew Gilkes adding 33 at the top of the order. However, once the early momentum faded, the Thunder batting lineup collapsed under pressure.
Perth’s bowlers struck regularly through the middle overs, never allowing the Thunder to build partnerships. The visitors were eventually bowled out for 131 runs in the 18th over, handing the Scorchers a commanding 71-run victory.
