Canada land on the wrong side of history [Source: @canadiancricket/X.com]
World cricket witnessed a bizarre and unwanted record when Canada took on Scotland in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 clash on Sunday, August 31, 2025. For the first time in 148 years of international cricket, both openers of a team were dismissed on the very first two balls of an innings.
After winning the toss, Scotland’s Brad Currie bowled the first delivery to opener Ali Nadeem, who edged it straight to Mark Watt at first slip. Canada were immediately 0/1.

If that wasn’t shocking enough, the next ball turned into an even bigger disaster. Non-striker Yuvraj Samra was run out in the unluckiest fashion. Pargat Singh’s straight drive was deflected by the bowler Currie onto the stumps, catching Samra outside his crease without facing a ball.
This sequence made history, as both Canadian openers were dismissed on the first two balls, a record that had never happened before in international cricket across Tests, ODIs, or T20Is.
Interestingly, Brad Currie wasn’t done yet. He ripped through Canada’s top order, leaving them at 18/5 with three wickets in his fiery opening spell.
At one stage, Canada were in danger of collapsing for under 50 runs. However, Shreyas Movva played a lone warrior’s knock of 60 runs, with some help from the lower order, to lift Canada to 184 all out.
But the total wasn’t nearly enough against a confident Scottish side. Chasing 185, George Munsey played a brilliant innings of 84 not out, while skipper Richie Berrington contributed 64 runs, guiding Scotland to victory in just 41.5 overs.
The result not only gave Scotland an easy win but also left Canada with a record they would never want to remember.
