Hunt for next BCCI president is on [Source: @1sInto2s/X.com]
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly set for a big leadership change, and a legendary Indian cricketer is now the frontrunner to take charge as its next president. According to reports, informal talks have already taken place with the former star during the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England.
This development comes after Roger Binny, the current president, stepped down in July 2025 after turning 70, the age limit set by BCCI rules.
Vice-president Rajeev Shukla is currently serving as acting president, but official elections for top positions will be held during the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) later this month.
Former Indian Cricket Star Likely To Be Crowned Next BCCI Head
According to Dainik Jagran, a legendary former Indian cricketer known for breaking several records during his playing days, is the front-runner to become the next BCCI president.
While the name has not been officially revealed, the report suggests that the cricketer is one of India’s biggest icons. If confirmed, this would continue a strong trend of ex-cricketers leading the BCCI. Sourav Ganguly was elected in 2019, followed by World Cup winner Roger Binny in 2022.
A senior political leader reportedly met the cricket legend in England to discuss his willingness to accept the role. Though the response was not publicly disclosed, sources say there is “serious intent” from both sides.
Insiders reportedly believe the elections may not be contested at all. Much like past appointments, consensus between major stakeholders could pave the way for a smooth, unanimous selection.
BCCI To Fill Key Positions At Upcoming AGM
The forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI will be significant, considering the key vacant positions that need to be filled.
While the president’s post is the most high-profile, other positions like secretary, treasurer, joint secretary, and IPL chairman will also be decided at the AGM.
Rajeev Shukla is reportedly eyeing the IPL chairman role, which could open up his vice-president seat for a new candidate.
