Abhishek Sharma has unlocked a major T20 batting landmark after raining down a match-winning 34-ball 62 against Services in Punjab’s Elite Group C match of the ongoing 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season. The blistering opener struck eight fours and three huge sixes in the innings in Hyderabad as Punjab mounted 233-6 in 20 overs.

Through the course of his latest six-frenzy for Punjab, Abhishek Sharma has completed 100 T20 sixes in the year 2025 so far, becoming the first-ever Indian cricketer to breach the landmark figure in a single calendar year.

Abhishek Sharma scales new heights in T20s after Asia Cup blitz

Punjab opener Abhishek Sharma blasted 62 from 34 balls against Services with eight fours and three huge sixes in Hyderabad. His latest six-fest helped the belligerent left-hander to scale the 100-six landmark in the year 2025 so far, thus becoming the first Indian cricketer in T20 history in any calendar year to do so.

Overall, the 25-year-old has scored nearly 1,500 runs in the year, having played for teams like Punjab in domestic cricket, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL and for India in international cricket. With an overhaul tally of 101 T20 sixes this year, Abhishek Sharma has been averaging a prolific 42.82 with a strike rate of a staggering 204.22.

The attacking opening batter struck 47 of those sixes in just 17 T20I innings for Team India, including 19 in the recently-concluded 2025 Asia Cup alone where he was crowned the ‘Player of the Tournament’. He also launched 28 sixes in just 13 innings for the SRH franchise in this year’s IPL 2025 season.

In the ongoing SMAT 2025-26 season alone, Abhishek Sharma has slapped 26 sixes in just six innings for Punjab, and is currently ranked second among the leading run-scorers of the tournament.

Expected to turn up for Team India in the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa, Abhishek Sharma will likely extend his six-hitting tally this year by a fair margin.
