Rohit Sharma has reportedly expressed his interest in playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), India’s premier domestic T20 league. The tournament is currently underway, and the former Indian captain is expected to play for Mumbai in the knockout stage.
This has come as a bit of a shock to the fans since Rohit has already retired from T20Is. But before he returns to domestic cricket, let’s have a look at how Rohit Sharma has fared in the premier T20 tournament.

Rohit Sharma’s iconic 45-ball century in SMAT 2007
Playing against Gujarat in the group stage in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2007, Rohit Sharma announced his arrival in T20 cricket in style. Chasing Gujarat’s target of 142, Mumbai lost both openers, Ajinkya Rahane and Robin Morris, early. Rohit came in at number three and began his onslaught.
He completed his fifty in no time, and that only gave him the power to press down the pedal and accelerate his innings. He reached his century in 45 balls and helped Mumbai win the match with 15 balls to spare. His innings was studded with 13 boundaries and five sixes.
Now, his return to the tournament will surely spark a great deal of interest, and he will look to deliver a strong performance in the limited chances that he will get.
