Bangladesh: After a promising start in the 2023 World Cup with a six-wicket win over Afghanistan, the Bangladesh team's tournament campaign took a disastrous turn, as they suffered five back-to-back defeats, including a humiliating loss to the Netherlands at the same venue. 

Their bowlers had a great day, limiting the Dutch to 229 on Eden Gardens' easy-breezy pitch, but their batters went haywire, collapsing embarrassingly and getting bowled out for just 142 runs. 

Their chances of reaching the semifinals have all but evaporated, and only a miracle could secure their spot in the top four. Qualification for the semifinals is no longer in their control, even if they manage to win the remaining games convincingly, as they must depend on the outcomes of other teams' matches.

Pakistan: Pakistan, on the other hand, started off like a house on fire, taking down Netherlands and Sri Lanka in their first two matches. However, it has been a rollercoaster of disappointment from there, with four losses in a row, practically slamming the door on their semifinal hopes. 

Their last outing was a tough pill to swallow, a narrow one-wicket defeat to South Africa. The Men in Green have some soul-searching to do, both in terms of their lineup and overall performance but the sad truth is that their qualification hopes are no longer in their hands. 

After four consecutive losses, Pakistan will look to change their fortunes as they face an already-wounded Bangladesh side. Things haven't been great both on and off the field for the Babar Azam-led unit and every victory from would bring joy their dressing room.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, have virtually been knocked out of the tournament. However, they would be willing to finish higher on the tournament, so that we can qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan.
