Ahead of the eagerly awaited India vs South Africa World Cup 2023 clash at the Eden Gardens on November 5, which also happens to be Indian stalwart Virat Kohli's 35th birthday, Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan sent out his best wishes.

Rizwan roots for Kohli's milestone ton on birthday

Rizwan, who is in Kolkata for Pakistan's game against Bangladesh on October 31, exuded a cheerful demeanour throughout the practice session at the iconic venue.

While mingling with the fans at the sidelines, Rizwan was questioned about the upcoming match between India and South Africa. Responding to a fan, inquiring about Kohli's birthday match, Rizwan expressed his fondness for the Indian batting maestro.

He conveyed his hopes for Kohli, mentioning that he would love to see the former Indian skipper score both his 49th and potentially a record-breaking 50th ODI century at Eden Gardens.

“Sirf mohabbat hai. Inshallah, idhar unka 49th kya 50th hundred bhi ho jaaye (I only have love for him. God be willing, may he get both his 49th and 50th ODI century here),” replied Rizwan as quoted by Sportstar.

Meanwhile, India's performance in the tournament has been noteworthy, with six consecutive wins under their belt. On the other hand, Pakistan's journey has been fraught with challenges, having lost their last four games, leaving their semi-final prospects hanging in the balance.

India's next challenge is against Sri Lanka on November 2 in Mumbai. If Kohli hits a century in this encounter, he will tie the record for 49 ODI centuries, a feat currently held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Fans anticipate that the India vs South Africa game on Kohli's birthday might present the perfect stage for him to secure his historic 50th ODI century.
