Another day, another India win. It has been that kind of tournament for the Men in Blue. The first innings did not went like how they would have wanted, however Rohit and Suryakumar's fighting innings provided them a competitive total.

England had all the chance to win this one coming into the run-chase. But boy oh boy! They made a mess of it. Only one of their batters reached 20s as a well-rounded effort from the Indian bowlers, especially Shami, bundled England at score of 129, 100 less than India's total.

England are bowled out for 129. Bumrah completes the demolition job by rattling the stumps and dismissing Mark Wood. The fireworks go up, so does Team India. They have reclaimed their topmost position on the points table.

Another bites the dust, courtesy Shami. Rashid is a goner. The stumps get removed off the pitch as Shami seems to be on a mission today. He has already won India the game but has an opportunity to take another five-for.

That was a magical delivery. The ball turned square. The England skipper could not read it all as he tried to play it on the back foot. The ball passes through the inside half of his bat to light up the bails.

Shami is spitting fire, knocking the stumps for fun. Bairstow walks off shaking his head after getting chopped on. England are 39/4 and are going down like ninepins.

Bairstow slashes hard. The ball flies off the outside edge off his bat to slips. Kohli got a hand to it but could not cling onto what could have been a blinder.

There is some strapping on Siraj's ankle. He is facing some difficulty with it. Hopefully, it's just being re-strapped and there is no injury concern.

To be honest, the English bowlers have done a fabulous job to restrict a heavy-weight India batting here in Lucknow. However, their batting too has been a disappointment in this tournament thus far. Let's see how that pans out, will the defending champs smear the golden 5-win streak for India or will India slam the English men just like the other teams?

Six runs off the second last over. Bumrah - the thinking cricketer - is helping India at this stage of the game with the game. IND - 220/8 with two overs to get. 

In walks Kuldeep Yadav in at No. 10. Leg glance by the southpaw and that was some useful runs for India in a tricky situation. Boundary to end the over, India are now at 214 with three overs still to go.

David Willey is again in wickets, India have lost its 8th wicket. The last recognized batter has to depart. The Men in Blue in deep waters. Nevertheless, Surya has played a precious knock on a tough track. IND - 208/8 in 40.2 overs.

In comes the SKY trademark pickup shot, and India cross over the 200-run mark! Gets a huge reception from the Ekana crowd! Suryakumar gets inside the line, picks it early and uses the pace and the angle of the bowler, helping it on its way over fine leg for a 75m six. 

AND BUMRAH JOINS THE PARTY. Boom clears his front leg and whips it across the line past the mid-on fielder to his right for a boundary. Oh, he gets a lifeline on the following delivery. Moeen Ali drops an absolute dolly at mid-off. Bumrah slogged it up in the air. That went miles in the air as Mo got other than ample time to get under it. Eventually, the Englishman got underneath it but only to spill the soda. 

It seems the English love getting smacked by Boom! IND - 208/7 after 46 overs.

That's the end of Adil Rashid for today. He finishes with figures of 2/35 in his 10 overs. However, he was punished by SKY in that over. He swept it hard with his differently-looking stance for the day. 7 runs off that over. IND - 190/7 in 43 overs.

Mark Wood strikes against Shami. The hosts are faltering here. Number seven goes down and inspired bowling change from Buttler to bring back Wood. In the channel and the pace was in the higher 140s, Shami couldn't do much at it as he nicks behind into the warm gloves of Jos Buttler. IND - 183-7 in 41.2 overs.

IND sinks deeper

Jadeja has been given LBW against Adil Rashid. The left hander misread the leg-break on this occasion. He has reviewed but seemed plumb to me. And umpire's call finds another enemy. India and Ravindra Jadeja will hate for now. Rod Tucker was the one who raised his finger at this occasion. IND - 182/6 in 40.3 overs.

Ravindra walks out of the middle. SKY and Jadeja - The last recognised pair for India in this game as after this the Men in Blue have a long tail in Kuldeep, Shami, Siraj and Bumrah.

Rohit Sharma departs. The Adil Rashid ploy has worked like a charm for England, and Rohit Sharma has been trudged off the field at 87. Slogged away by Rohit and Livingstone takes a fantastic catch in the deep. Silence in the stadium. In the air and has been taken in the deep! Adil Rashid gets the big wicket of Rohit Sharma, who falls 13 short of a hundred. IND - 164/5 in 36.5

I do not want jinx SKY here, but Surya is charging on against the English. He's keeping the pressure off Rohit Sharma from the other end. Also, Rohit completed 4000 runs as captain a while back. IND - 149/4 in 34.2 overs.

SKY comes and SKY counters. Uses his wrists and flicks it over mid-on for a boundary on his second delivery on the day. IND - 135/4 in 30.4 overs.

KL dismantles against the run of play

With a streak of fours from the blade of the Indian captain, India seem back into it. Rohit Sharma gets onto 79 and KL Rahul is complimenting with his classy batting at his den. The partnership between the two stalwarts has reached 91 now. IND - 131/3 after 30 overs.

Rohit picks the bones out of it. Okay, sorry - that was a shot of an artist. Kneels down and sweeps it elegantly against Adil Rashid behind the square. Rohit Sharma completes 18000 runs in international cricket with that shot. He becomes the fifth Indian player after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.

What a legend he has been for India.

Rohit now is India's highest run-getter in the World Cup 2023. He has 355 runs in the tournament, Virat Kohli is at 354. India, meanwhile, are at 73-3 after 20 overs against England at Lucknow.

Arjun: In my opinion, away team likes South Africa and Australia have been playing on batting paradises, and that is boasting their confidence hugely. India, too, should use that on their advantage at this stage of the tournament.

Oh my god, I cannot believe it. Rohit Sharma misses a flick on the front pad against Mark Wood. He did miss a couple of deliveries ago as well. But this time, Wood has done the trick. Rohit Sharma - with consultation with KL - goes upstairs and that seems going down the leg-stump to me. AND YES, IT'S MISSING THE STUMPS. ROHIT SURVIVES.

That's the response by the Indian skipper. Rohit stays his crease and gets on the top of the bounce. Slashes it really hard and cuts it through point for a cracking boundary. Time for a drinks break!

Rohit charges down the track and lofts it straight over mid on for a boundary. Falls just short of the boundary ropes. Ends Woakes' over with a boundary. A single in the following over as India bring its 50 in the 15th over. This game will be a slow snooze.

Shreyas departs!

Another one bites the dust! This time it's Shreyas Iyer who has to go back to the dugout. What a brilliant setup by Woakes. He started with full-length balls and surprised Iyer with the short ball there. The batter miscues the pull and gets caught at mid off. India are in tatters, placed at 40 for three in 11.5 overs!

Spin into the game in the 11th over. Adil Rashid has been introduced. My gut says Shreyas Iyer has been daunting against England's premium leggie.

MIX-UP and Rohit might in TROUBLE

Miscommunication between Shreyas and Rohit. Iyer pushed it towards covers, who misfielded but Stokes - at mid-off - guided the ball. Rohit ran halfway down the pitch but Iyer aborted the mission in the middle. Rohit ran back but a direct hit at the bowler's end. And replays bring smile back in the Indian hut. Rohit did well to drag his bat inside the line- by just. The crowd at Lucknow go up in relief.

Virat Kohli has been done and dusted for the day. On a slow pitch, the prolific batter tried producing a shot but doesn't get enough elevation behind the ball. Kohli charged down the pitch and tried going over mid-off to get off the mark with a boundary. Not the wily Willey's medium pacer wasn't ideal for that shot, and VK pays the price. Willey has the big fish for a 9-ball duck. He is pumped up. Stokes rakes the catch and points out to Buttler. Both the Prince and the King are back in the hut.

Outside edge and short of Root at the slip. Beautifully bowled by Woakes in the channel, Rohit pushes at it and gets an outside edge but that falls just short of Root at first slip. Early sign of slow pitch?

King Kohli is out in the middle and he plays out a four dots off Willey. The King gets at the same lines and lengths like Rohit got in the first over of the match. All six deliveries were a test for the maestro right-hander. IND - 27/1 after 5 overs.

THROUGH THE GATES

Gill gets a beautiful delivery and the Lucknow crowd has been silenced by Woakes. The pacer bowls a nip-backer at a high pace, the batter takes a huge stride forward and but the ball sneaks through the gap between the bat and the pad.

ROHIT SLAYS HEREEEEE

Rohit gets a yorker on the first delivery. He plays it out, respects the bowls here. But, but, but... you cannot keep Rohit down for that long. He dances down and smashes it Willey's head for a boundary and pulls him into the stands on the third ball. Pressure back on England. IND - 15/0 after 2.4 overs.

AND A MIGHTY ONE TO END THE OVER!!!!!

Rohit charges down the track and tonks it straight back over the bowler's head for a biggie. Nice swing of the bat. After bowling a maiden, Willey concedes 18 runs in his next over. IND - 22/0 after 3 overs.

A maiden to start the first innings. Chris Woakes will bowl from the other end. First runs on the board, after eight dot balls. Gill starts off for India. The Lucknow crowd erupts. Beautifully played. Gill gets on top of the bounce and punches it nicely in the gap between backward point and covers for a boundary.

Without Hardik Pandya's services, the balance of the Indian side has been disrupted. And we saw the glimpses of it in India's last clash against New Zealand. England 

For England, the problems have multiplied and been exposed brutally as they've headed deeper into the campaign. The Jos Buttler-led reigning champions have struggled in either department and have had questions raised about their playing strategy and overall approach in the middle.

England's ultra aggressive approach has entailed excessive risks and opened wicket-taking doors for opposition attacks. Batting with the quest to provide their vulnerable bowling unit totals well above par, the 2019 champions have suffered the worst fate with horrendous collapses in their last three matches. 

Injuries and constant changes made to the line-up haven't helped the cause either as they've instilled an unstable base and lack of assurance and role clarity about the side. All that needs quick amends if England are to stay in the hunt for the knock-outs stage.

India 

India have flexed their muscles as an all-round juggernaut in the competition with their robust bowling attack and star-studded batting unit. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the frontrunners on the batting front, while Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav have played influential roles in the bowling department.

Of the rest, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammad Shami may have flown under the radar but have also made their presence count. India's only headache revolves around the untimely injury to their premier allrounder Hardik Pandya, who is recovering from an ankle issue.

If Pandya was fit, India wouldn't have thought twice about bringing third spinner R. Ashwin into their line-up for a dry pitch in Lucknow. However, with the key allrounder out, India will have to reconsider the third-seam option in order to play Ashwin in a five-man attack. Would they be brave enough to drop one of Shami and Siraj to keep up with the conditions on offer?
