Kishan's One Day International (ODI) career has been marked by record-breaking performances and significant contributions since his debut in July 2021. He was named in India's ODI squad for their tour of Sri Lanka in June 2021, and he made his ODI debut on that tour, scoring an impressive 59 from 42 balls. This debut showcased Kishan's ability to adapt to the 50-over format.

Kishan's ODI career reached a historic milestone in December 2022 during India's tour of Bangladesh. He scored an astonishing 210 runs from 131 balls, becoming the youngest and the fastest player, at the age of 24 years and 145 days, to score a double century in an ODI. In September 2023, Kishan was selected for India's squad in World Cup 2023.
