On Sunday, January 4, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officially unveiled the 15-member squad for upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Litton Das will lead the side while Mohammed Saif Hassan will serve as his deputy.
No place for Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan
Some of the noticeable absentees from the squad are Jaker Ali and Mehidy Hasan. For the unversed, Jaker Ali led The Tigers in Asia Cup 2025 when regular skipper Litton Das was ruled out of the tournament midway due to injury.
Overall, Jaker Ali has 378 runs in 25 innings in 2025 and averaged just 22.23. He also batted at a strike-rate of 123.93. Therefore Ali will have to prove himself again on the international level to get a place in ICC events in the future.
Another noticeable exclusion in the team is Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The 28-year-old has not been in Bangladesh's scheme of things for a long time as he featured in five games this year and scored just 64 runs.
Mustafizur Rahman, Litton Das make the squad despite geopolitical tensions
At present, the relations behind India and Bangladesh are at an all-time low. The recent geopolitical tensions has forced KKR to drop Mustafizur Rahman from the squad and now Bangladesh are also contemplating moving their T20 World Cup 2026 matches outside India.
Amid the tensions, Mustafizur has made it to the squad and will be Bangladesh's key bowler for the tournament. Meanwhile, Litton Das has been named captain despite the recent religious tensions.
