Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders will be commencing their respective BPL 2024 campaigns with a match against each other. Their much-awaited face-off, also marking the third match of the tournament, will be hosted by Dhaka on January 20.

Fortune Barishal

Fortune Barishal finished at number four on the BPL points table last year. Securing seven wins out of their 12 league fixtures, they defeated Rangpur Riders in both of their opening round meetings before losing out to them in the all-important Eliminator.

While Shakib Al Hasan led the Barishal last season, fellow Bangladeshi veteran and star-opening batsman Tamim Iqbal will be leading the franchise this time around. He will be aided by several overseas attractions like David Miller, Shoaib Malik, Fakhar Zaman, and Paul Stirling, alongside legendary Bangladesh cricketers Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah in the line-up.

Rangpur Riders

Back during the BPL 2023 season last year, Rangpur Riders raided six successive victories at one stage to finish at number three on the points table at the end of the opening round. After defeating Fortune Barishal in the Eliminator, they lost to the Sylhet Strikers in the second qualifier to crash out of the competition.

Rangpur Riders’ current outfit will be led by Nurul Hasan Sohan. Shakib Al Hasan, who represented the Fortune Barishal last year, made a franchise shift to Riders a few months ago, and he will be joined by Babar Azam, Wanindu Hasaranga, Nicholas Pooran, and Imran Tahir in their star-studded line-up.
