Delhi Capitals are ready to take on UP Warriorz in the eighth match of the ongoing Women's Premier League 2025. The high-octane clash is set to take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, February 22.
This is the second time these two sides are coming up against each other this season. On the back of an all-round performance from Annabel Sutherland, Meg Lanning's side got the better of the Warriorz in what was last-over humdinger in Vadodara earlier this week.
Additionally, Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz have been playing against each other since the very first season in 2023. Both these sides have come up against each other a total 5 times with the Delhi franchise winning on four occasions.
Talking about the form, the Capitals have given themselves a great start to their 2025 campaign as Meg Lanning’s side has won two of their first three matches and are placed second in the points table. Meanwhile, the Warriorz continue to struggle as they are coming into this match having lost each of their first two games and as a result, are sitting at the bottom of the table.
Top 3 Captain and Vice-Captain Choices For DC-W vs UP-W
The surface at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is expected to be a good one for the batters, supporting stroke-making in the major part of the match. Seamers might get some early assistance with the new ball but spinners will have to do the heavy lifting during the middle overs.
Considering the past records at this venue, the team winning the toss should bowl first as chasing team always prevails more often than not with dew coming into play in the later half of the game.
3. Annabel Sutherland
Aussie star Annabel Sutherland will be a great fantasy pick ahead of the match between Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz as she is currently the joint highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 5 wickets already.
It's her all-round abilities which makes her different from the crowd and an obvious choice for all the games in WPL going forward. Additionally, she has been in great form in the recent past and was one of the main reasons (scored unbeaten 41 and took 2 wickets) Capitals won against UP in their last encounter.
2. Tahlia McGrath
Tahlia McGrath has been far from her best but will still start as one of the first names in the fantasy XI. Considering the second leg being played at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, McGrath is expected to come back to her best and play a crucial role in both the departments.
Moreover, the star-all-rounder has done extremely well against the Capitals in the past (153 runs) and will be eyeing to replicate the same.
1. Meg Lanning
The ever consistent Meg Lanning has found her mojo back in the last game against UP, scoring a fine match-winning 69. The veteran Australian opener is loves playing against the Warriorz as she has nearly 300 runs against them across 5 meetings.
She is currently the third highest run-scorer in the tournament with 101 runs already at an average of 33.67. Having said that, she will undoubtedly be one of the first names in the fantasy XIs in this match and for the remainder of the season.
