Bangladesh and New Zealand will square off in the second ODI of their three-match series in Shere Bangla Stadium, Dhaka on Saturday, slated to begin at 1:30 PM IST. Both teams will be looking to gain momentum ahead of the 2023 World Cup, which begins next month. The first match, played earlier this week, was called off after 33.4 overs owing to rain.

Bangladesh had a poor Asia Cup 2023 campaign earlier this month in Sri Lanka. Their losses against co-hosts Sri Lanka and Pakistan knocked them out of the competition, although they were able to salvage a consolation win over eventual victors India. Bangladesh's imposing ODI record at home has also taken a major hit this year, with series losses to England and Afghanistan.

After taking a 1-0 lead in England earlier this month, New Zealand lost their next three one-day internationals by large margins, handing the series to the hosts. The 'Black Caps' will be trying to find some ODI form in the absence of veterans Tim Southee, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips and Tom Latham for the time being, all while correcting their winless 50-overs record in Bangladesh since 2010.

BAN vs NZ, 2nd ODI- Venue Analysis

The pitch at Dhaka's Shere Bangla Stadium is ideal for spinners. However with rain around the corner for the past few days, it will be interesting to see how things pan out. The pacers got little bit of extra bounce and the slower ones were coming off well in the last game here. One may expect a low scoring encounter.

BAN vs NZ, 2nd ODI- Toss Factor

With the rain around the corner, the coin-flip is definitely going to play an indispensable factor in the game. The toss winning skipper may chose to ball first to get a better idea of DLS scores, if needed. Let us have a quick look at the probable scenarios.

Scenario: If BAN wins the toss

Bangladesh may chose to field first like they did in the last game. In that case, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed and Towhid Hridoy are going to be some crucial names who could multiply the fantasy points.

Scenario: If NZ wins the toss

If the Kiwis win the toss, they may look to field as well. Lockie Ferguson must have learnt a lesson from the last game after the batters stuggled to score quick runs. If that's the scenario, Trent Boult, Will Young and Rachin Ravindra are going to be a good choice for captain and vice-captain.

BAN vs NZ, 2nd ODI- Top Captain and Vice-captain options

If BAN bats first

Towhid Hridoy

The middle order batter has been the wall of the Bangladesh batting order at crunch moments in recent times. Hridoy had a fabulous Asia Cup outing when it comes to individual performance and would look to keep on with the momentum.

Rachin Ravindra

The wicket favours spinners and Rachin Ravindra can have a great outing with the ball. He can extract drift and bit of variable bounce, helping the all-rounder to challenge the batters more often than not. Also not to forget, Ravindra's capability with the bat blower down the order.

If NZ bats first

Nasum Ahmed

The left-arm orthodox spinner was brilliant with the cork in hand in the last outing against New Zealand. he may have got a couple of wickets to show but deserved even more. The conditions are well suited for Nasum to operate and this is an opposition which has a history of suffering against Nasum.

Will Young

The right-handed batter was calm and composed in his last innings against Bangladesh. Young notched a brilliant half-century under pressure and stabilised the innings along with Henry Nicholls. He is a good player of spin and has an array of shots around the ground.

BAN vs NZ, 2nd ODI- Big Risk, Big Return Choice

Hasan Mahmud

The lanky pacer has been added in the Bangladesh squad for the second and third ODI against New Zealand. Hasan is a very good new ball bowler who can hit the right channels and extract enough nibble to challenge the edges of the bat. He may play tomorrow and can be effective too.
