Ravichandran Ashwin Spotted Batting In The Nets Immediately After First ODI vs AUS

Ravichandran Ashwin starred with the ball in his comeback ODI against Australia as he removed a well-set Marnus Labuschagne from the crease. The veteran spinner, who was fast-tracked into the Indian squad just weeks prior to the 2023 World Cup, had a go at the nets just moments after his team routed the visiting Australians in Mohali.

Ashwin batted at the nets while others celebrated win

Team India, under interim skipper KL Rahul, is currently hosting Australia for a three-match pre-World Cup 2023 series between September 22 and 27. Seasoned campaigner Ravichandran Ashwin, who played his previous ODI nearly two years ago in South Africa, was fast-tracked into team’s 50-overs set-up at the expense of injured Axar Patel for the series against Australia.

Ashwin made his opportunity count by conceding just 47 runs from his 10 overs at a high-scoring Mohali venue. While new-ball pacer Mohammed Shami inflicted much of the demolition job, the spin legend also chipped in with a wicket, that of a well-set in-form Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne.

The Indian batters, particularly both openers and KL Rahul made lightwork of the Australian total with crafty half-centuries. The middle-order ensured that Ashwin remained in the hut as the ‘Men in Blue’ sealed the deal with five wickets and eight balls to spare.

Not getting a go with the bat in the game, Ashwin took to the nets just moments after Team India had completed their emphatic win in Mohali.

The star all-rounder might well make into India’s World Cup 2023 squad if Axar Patel fails to recover from his wrist injury on time. Earlier, coach Rahul Dravid himself had hinted out Ashwin’s last-minute inclusion for the tournament.

Regardless, the legendary spinner has two more matches against Australia this series to leave a notable mark with both bat and ball ahead of the forthcoming cricketing carnival.
