After riveting competition against England , the Kiwis travel to Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series starting September 21. This serves as a great preparatory camp for few of the players who are a part of the 2023 World Cup that is slated to begin at October 5. The first match of the series will be played at the Shere Bangla Cricket Stadium, Dhaka, and will begin at 1:30 PM IST.

Bangladesh have unveiled a squad led by Litton Das for the upcoming New Zealand series. Experienced players such as Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, etc have been rested alongside young guns- Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud. However, the likes of Mahmudullah Riyad and Tamim Iqbal return back to the squad after a brisk interval. Nurul Hasan Sohan and Soumya Sarkar are two other names who have been summoned for the upcoming series along with uncapped players- Zakir Hasan, Syed Khaled Ahmed, and Rishad Hossain.

While Mark Chapman and James Neesham are missing the series as they're expecting the birth of child.

Ferguson will be accompanied by Trent Boult, Adam Milne, and Kyle Jamieson in the bowling department. In addition, Rachin Ravindra, who is also a part of the World Cup squad will get to test his skillset in spin-favourable conditions of Bangladesh while Dean Foxcroft is in line to make a ODI debut.

BAN vs NZ, 1st ODI- Venue Analysis

The surface at the Shere Bangla Stadium, Dhaka is conducive to the spinners. It is expected to be dry and slow. As a batter, you need to be fond of playing spin and tick the scoreboard with good running between the wickets.

BAN vs NZ, 1st ODI- Toss Factor

Toss is going to play an important role here. If the dew sets in, the toss winning skipper will look to field first and take the advantage.

Scenario: If BAN wins the toss

If Litton Das wins the toss, he may look to field first. Probably, Bangladesh would be fancying a total and then try to create pressure on the visitors. Nasum Ahmed and Mahmudullah can be a great option for captain or vice-captain.

Scenario: If NZ wins the toss

If Lockie Ferguson wins the toss, he could bat first. The thought behind the decision could be the lateral movement of the ball under the lights during the second innings. In that scenario, Trent Boult, Rachin Ravindra and Will Young can be a good asset.

If Bangladeshj bats first

Mahmudullah Riyadh

The former Bangladesh captain has a lot to  prove  as he makes his comeback in the Bangladesh ODI side. He is a watchful batter who brings in a lot of elegance in the middle order. In the absence of experienced cricketers such as Shakib, Mushfiqur, Miraz, one can expect Mahmudullah to fire all guns.

Trent Boult

The left-handed batter can be a threat to the Bangladesh batting line-up. He is quick and gets the movement off the air. He was in a very good form in recent times. Be it for the franchises or be it for his national side, Boult is a deadly weapon to counter for any opposition.

If NZ bats first

Rachin Ravindra

The young all-rounder will be getting appropriate conditions for him to showcase what he possess. The left-hander scored a half-century with the bat against England very recently and there's absolutely no doubt about his ability with the ball in hand.

Nasum Ahmed

The last time when New Zealand toured to Bangladesh in 2021, Nasum Ahmed was one of the bowlers that troubled them. The story could be similar this time. With a lot of inexperienced bloke in the Kiwi line-up, Nasum could trap them by spinning a cob of left-arm orthodox spin and varying pace.

BAN vs NZ, 1st ODI: Big Risk, Big Return Choice

Finn Allen

The Kiwi opener is one of those batters who can capitalize on the hard new ball and use the powerplay effectively for New Zealand. He is a talented bloke but has blown hot and cold throughout his career. Since the strip will be fresh for the series, it could be a perfect opportunity for Allen to free his arms.
