Matthew Hayden was the centre of attention after Joe Root scored his maiden Test hundred on Australian soil. The former Australian cricketer had claimed that he would walk naked at the MCG if Root did not get a century in the ongoing Ashes. To his relief, that moment came early in the series on Day 1 of the second Test in Brisbane.

Hayden’s daughter, Grace, has now joined the conversation. She took to Instagram and posted a selfie in her story to take a hilarious dig at her father, thanking Joe Root for saving her the embarrassment.

“Root, thank you; you’ve saved all our eyes,” she wrote.

Earlier, the 54-year-old also appeared in a hilarious video posted by the English Cricket’s official X handle. He congratulated Root on his maiden century in Australia and thanked him for saving his skin.

“Good day, Joe. Congratulations, mate, on the hundred here in Australia. Took you a while, and there was no one who had more skin in the game than me, literally. I was backing you in for the hundred in a good way. So mate, congratulations. 10 fifties and finally a hundred. You little ripper, mate. Have a beauty and bloody enjoy it," Hayden said in the video.

Root’s innings helped England to a good total

Two early wickets on Day 1 of the Pink Ball Test in Brisbane forced the former English skipper to walk in early. However, he did not let the pressure of the situation get the better of him. He played with patience and took England out of trouble.

His partnerships with Zak Crawley, Harry Brooks, and his late surge with Jofra Archer helped England to a score of 334. Root ended his innings with a score of 138 in 206 deliveries, including 15 fours and a solitary six.
