Mohammad Ashraful is officially staying on as Bangladesh’s batting coach. What began as a short-term role for the home series against Ireland has now turned into a longer journey with the national side.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to extend his position, showing strong faith in the former captain’s knowledge and passion for the game.

Mohammad Ashraful given a longer rope as batting coach

According to Cricbuzz, BCB officials state that Mohammad Ashraful will be part of the team management for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

There is also a strong possibility that his role will continue beyond the tournament and stretch further, potentially up to the 2027 ODI World Cup. While nothing is set in stone, it is clear that the board sees long-term value in his presence.

Alongside Mohammad Ashraful, Mohammad Salahuddin will also continue as the senior assistant coach. His resignation after the Ireland series was not accepted by the board, and after discussions with senior officials, he decided to stay.

This ensures that Bangladesh’s support staff will maintain stability at a crucial time.

The BCB might also take a more flexible approach with coaching roles in the future. Coaches may work with the national team, the A team, or the high-performance squad, depending on what is needed.

Bangladesh to have an international break

Meanwhile, after a tiring calendar year, Bangladesh will take a break from international cricket. The Ireland series was their last outing of 2025, and now the Tigers will take the field during the T20 World Cup in February 2026.

In between, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to take place from December 26 to January 24, and all senior as well as budding prospects will be seen in action.
