Former Australian cricketer turned commentator Matthew Hayden had high stakes riding on English star Joe Root. The former English captain had many feathers in his hat, but a Test ton in Australia was not one of them. In the many years of him playing down under, a century had evaded him. But that changed in the second Test of the ongoing Ashes and so did Hayden’s fortune.

Earlier, Hayden had made bizarre claims that he would walk around naked in the Melbourne Cricket Ground if Root failed to score a century in the ongoing Ashes. To his relief, that moment came on Day 1 of the Pink Ball test in Brisbane.

Congratulating him on his achievement, Hayden appeared in a hilarious video posted by England Cricket on Twitter. In the video, he claimed that nobody had “more skin in the game” than Hayden himself.

"Good day, Joe. Congratulations, mate, on the hundred here in Australia. Took you a while, and there was no one that had more skin in the game than me, literally. I was backing you in for the hundred in a good way. So mate, congratulations. 10 fifties and finally a hundred. You little ripper, mate. Have a beauty and bloody enjoy it," Hayden said in the video.

In another video posted by Australian broadcasters, Hayden came out hilariously celebrating from the commentary room. “No Nude Run Needed,” read the caption.

Joe Root lights up Day 1 of Brisbane Test

Root walked in early on Day 1 after England lost Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope early. Experienced player that he is, he put on a commendable effort to not let any more wickets fall for a while. He batted through the first session along with Zak Crawley.

He then built small partnerships with Harry Brook and Ben Stokes as well to put England in a good position. And despite a few wickets falling at the back end of the day, his late power surge helped England score 325/9 on Day 1. He ended with a score of 135 in 202 balls.
