Ahead of India’s Super 8 clash against Afghanistan, Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav’s charm was on full display at the pre-match press conference when he found himself in the midst of an identity mix-up.

Known for his explosive batting, Surya showed he’s equally capable at handling off-field curveballs with wit and smile.

Suryakumar Yadav turned journalist’s mistake into a laugh riot

During the pre-match press conference, a journalist mistakenly addressed Suryakumar Yadav as Mohammed Siraj. Without missing a beat, Surya flashed his trademark smile and delivered a punchline that left everyone in stitches:

"Siraj toh nah hai... Siraj bhai khana khaa rahe hain," he quipped, meaning "Siraj is not here. He is having food."

This delightful banter turned an awkward moment into a memorable one, showcasing Surya's ability to handle pressure both on and off the field.

Surya’s humorous detour was just the appetizer to his main course performance against Afghanistan. Having stated the importance of dominating the middle overs, he led by example in India’s Super Eight opener in Barbados on Friday.

With incredible authority, Surya dissected Afghanistan’s renowned spin attack in the middle overs, belting three sixes and five fours in a whirlwind 28-ball 53.

Backed by Hardik Pandya’s brisk 32 off 24 balls, India set a challenging target of 181/7 on a tricky pitch. Contributions from stalwarts Virat Kohli (24) and Rishabh Pant (20) laid a solid foundation for Surya’s fireworks.

Afghanistan’s response was like a damp squib, as they stalled to 134 all out. Jasprit Bumrah, ever the spearhead, scalped 3/7 in a spell of sheer brilliance.

Arshdeep Singh’s triple strike and Kuldeep Yadav’s double whammy further ensured Afghanistan’s batsmen had little to smile about as India started their Super 8 journey with a comprehensive win.
