Pakistan have put England under the mat in the series decider at the Rawalpindi Test. They have taken a stronghold in the game and are marching towards a comeback series win after having a dismal time in the last few months.
Jamie Smith brought England back into the game
England won the toss and opted to bat first. Pakistan bowlers showed great discipline and put the English batting under pressure on Day 1. The visitors were reeling at 118/6 at one stage in the first innings. However, Jamie Smith played a counter-attacking knock of 89 runs, bringing England back into the game. They were bundled out for 267 runs in the innings.
Saud Shakeel took Pakistan past the English total
In reply, Pakistan did not make a great start. However, the middle order stood up for the home tea. Saud Shakeel scored a valiant 134 off 223 deliveries and ensured that Pakistan took a respectable lead in the first innings. The Pakistan innings ended at 344 as they took a lead of 77 runs.
In the second innings, England was looking to put on a solid show and post a formidable target for the home team in the last innings. However, the two Pakistan spinners proved to be a bit too much for the visitors as their top order crumbled before quality spin bowling.
Ben Stokes threw away his wicket in the second Innings
England were struggling at 66/4 when the team's skipper, Ben Stokes, walked out into the middle. The English all-rounder is known for performing in this kind of clutch situation when the team is under pressure. The team would have hoped for a miraculous knock from him onece again.
However, this did not happen as Ben Stokes fell into a typical brain fade moment. On the second delivery of the 22nd over, Noman Ali bowled a full delivery outside the off stump that was spinning into the batter. Ben Stokes covered his stumps, leaned towards the pitch of the ball, and then suddenly decided to leave it. The ball wrapped him on the pads in front of the stumps, ending his stay in the middle. It looked like a silly judgment, especially from someone in Stokes's class.
