Nicholas Pooran, wicket-keeper batter from West Indies, was retained by LSG for INR 21 crores and he celebrated his big payday by singing a Bollywood song in an interview with RevSportz. Pooran was LSG's first retention after KL Rahul was released due to differences with franchise ownership.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) failed to bridge the gap with captain KL Rahul after a public feud between him and owner Sanjiv Goenka strained their relationship. Rahul decided to part ways and was eventually released at the retention deadline on October 31.

That being said, LSG decided to retain as many as 5 players, including 2 uncapped and wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran was announced as first retention for a whopping salary of INR 21 crores. While the salary slab for first retention was set at INR 18 crores by IPL governing council, LSG went out of their way to reward Pooran.

Besides Pooran, LSG also retained Ravi Bishnoi (INR 11 crore), Mayank Yadav (INR 11 crore), Ayush Badoni (INR 4 crore), and Mohsin Khan (INR 4 crore). They will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with a purse of INR 69 crores and 1 RTM card.

In an official statement released post the IPL 2025 retention deadline, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka took a subtle dig at departing captain KL Rahul. He insisted on retaining players with a winning mindset and someone who puts the team ahead of their personal interests. Rahul reportedly rejected LSG's retention offer, citing personal reasons as he conveyed his wish to enter the mega auction to LSG.
