In the latest development, the pace sensation, Mayank Yadav has faced another major setback and has been sidelined him for an extended period likely to be around 3 months due to a recurring back injury. Initial reports suggested that side strain was the issue, but according to new reports, it was his back injury that occurred again and has forced him out.
This unexpected development has impacted his plans to return to domestic cricket and ultimately cost him a spot as a reserve pacer in India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
Mayank Yadav's Injury Update
According to the reports of The Telegraph, the BCCI wanted Mayank to take part in the Ranji Trophy's fourth or fifth rounds. However, with his back injury persisting, those plans have also been abandoned. Earlier, the 22-year-bowler was initially among the names considered for the Indian squad’s upcoming series against South Africa, as well as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“There appears to be some problem with his back... Could also be a case of stress fracture. As per the earlier prescription from the NCA (National Cricket Academy), he could play in the Ranji Trophy from its fourth or fifth round, but that’s no longer possible now. He’s again out for quite some time," a BCCI official said.
It is also important to mention that, Mayank Yadav made his debut in T20I series against Bangladesh. He has shown tremendous potential as he scalped six wickets in three games However, as confirmed by a BCCI release regarding, he has once again suffered an injury setback. This recurrence not only rules him out of the immediate upcoming series but may also jeopardise his availability for longer than initially expected.
Mayank Yadav's Personal Coach Comments On His Injury
According to Mayank Yadav's personal coach Devendra Sharma, the fast bowler has been advised to refrain from playing now as the team management are looking to bring him back for the three-match ODI series against England in February. This means that he will not be in action for three months.
“It’s not that Mayank has sustained a fresh injury, but he has been advised not to play now as they’re looking to have him back for the England ODIs,” Devendra Sharma said.
His injury is a blow for both him and the team, as he was seen as a rising star capable of strengthening India’s fast-bowling unit for next series.
