In a significant development, as the IPL 2025 mega auction is approaching, it is shaping up to be an explosive event, as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is reportedly planning to release their star player and skipper, KL Rahul. According to reports from ESPN Cricinfo, LSG has taken this decision as a move to look forward with a new strategy that is centred around bolstering its core players and retaining emerging talents.

Nicholas Pooran Takes the Spotlight For LSG

It is important to mention that LSG owners have decided to retain West Indian power-hitter Nicholas Pooran as their marquee player, securing him with a retention price of Rs 18 crore. Pooran has been in phenomenal form in recent times, which could be the prime reason LSG has opted to retain him instead of KL Rahul. In the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 season, Pooran ended the season as the top run-scorer with 504 runs at a strike rate close to 170. According, to several other reports, it is worth mentioning that, there are chances that Nicholas Pooran will replace KL Rahul as the captain for the upcoming season.

KL Rahul's Tenure Ends With LSG

According to several reports, KL Rahul's future at LSG has been in question for some time, with hints of discord between him and the franchise. In the previous season, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul had a verbal spat during LSG's loss to SRH. This conflict raised several eyebrows. However, it is important to note that Rahul and the LSG owner have dismissed any lingering issues on this spat.  LSG's decision to release KL Rahul has come because they want to start fresh and make a shift from Rahul's captaincy.

Ravi Bishnoi and Mayank Yadav To Continue With LSG

As LSG bids farewell to Rahul, the franchise is keen on retaining their core Indian players, beginning with leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi and pace bowler Mayank Yadav.

Ravi Bishnoi has proven to be a valuable asset for LSG, as he has scalped 39 wickets with a respectable economy rate. His consistency as LSG's top wicket-taker aligns with the franchise's need for a reliable wrist-spinner.

In the pace department, LSG plans to retain Mayank Yadav, who is now valued at Rs 11 crore due to his recent debut for India. Despite limited IPL experience in the last season due to injury, the fast-bowler has the ability to clock speeds over 150 km/h. His retention reinforces LSG's commitment to cultivating a fearsome pace attack.

Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan Set To Stay With LSG

According to the new rules for IPL 2025, BCCI has allowed each franchise to retain a maximum of two uncapped players from their previous squads, and LSG has reportedly chosen Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan for this purpose.
