In a recent news, Andrea Hewitt, wife of former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, has spoken publicly about the challenges of her husband’s long-standing battle with alcohol addiction. In a recent podcast interview with Suryanshi Pandey, Andrea shared her side of the story and opened up on emotional toll Kambli’s struggles have taken on their family.
Kambli's Wife Open Up About Husband's Alcohol Addiction
Andrea disclosed that Vinod Kambli has undergone rehabilitation 14 times to comeback from his addiction. At one point, she even filed for divorce but chose to withdraw the petition after witnessing her husband's terrible health condition.
"He will be helpless if I leave him. He is like a child, and that hurts me. It makes me feel worried. I would not even leave a friend, but he is more than that. I remember there were moments when I would just walk away. But then I would be worried: Has he eaten or not? Is he on the bed properly? Is he okay? Then I had to check on him, and I would understand that he needed me," she said.
Vinod Kambli got married to Andrea Hewitt in 2006, after his first marriage with Noella Lewis ended. The couple has two children, Jesus Christiano and Johanna. Despite the turmoil, Andrea revealed that their son stepped up to support her during Kambli’s most difficult days.
The couple faced public scrutiny in February 2023 when Andrea filed a police complaint against Kambli, citing domestic abuse. Despite the challenges and family problems, Andrea remains committed to supporting her husband through his struggles.
It is important to mention that, earlier this month, Andrea was seen assisting Kambli at the 50th-anniversary celebration of Wankhede. She was seen helping Vinod Kambli to walk and receive his award from cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.
