Shubman Gill, India’s T20I vice-captain, was dismissed on a golden duck in the second T20I against South Africa. As his lean form continues, fans slam Gill on social media, left, right and centre.
After a brief injury layoff due to a neck spasm, Gill made his much-awaited comeback in the T20I series against South Africa.
However, he had an underwhelming start, scoring four runs in the first game at Cuttack.

Moreover, his bad luck carried forward in the second game at Mullanpur. Chasing 214, opener Shubman Gill faced Lungi Ngidi in the opening over.
Bowling a good-length delivery on the off stump, Ngidi got the ball to kick and shape away. Gill, stuck on the crease, pressed forward tentatively and found a thick outside edge.
Reeza Hendricks moved smartly to his right to complete a sharp catch. A classic new-ball dismissal, more Test than T20. That marked the end of Gill as he walked back on a golden duck.
This lean form led to huge criticism online for Shubman Gill. Fans are adamant that he is not fit enough to feature in the T20 format, let alone be the vice-captain.
Many alleged favouritism, saying Gil is forcefully being made the poster boy of Indian cricket, while in reality, he is not ready to assume the responsibility.

Shubman Gill has been dismissed for the second time against Lungi Ngidi, and in his last four appearances against South Africa, the opener has registered just single-digit scores.
That being said, India are in deep trouble early in the powerplay. After Gill, Abhishek Sharma also followed his opening teammate to the pavilion on 17 off 8 balls.
To add to the misery, captain Suryakumar Yadav was also dismissed on just 5 runs, leaving India reeling on 32/3.
