In the second T20I between India and South Africa of the five-match series at Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh, Arshdeep Singh found himself at the centre of a bizarre moment that unfolded dramatically and stunned players, fans, and commentators alike.

Arshdeep Singh’s chaotic 13-ball over stuns everyone in 2nd T20I

The incident occurred during the 11th over of South Africa’s innings. India, hunting for a breakthrough at the halfway stage, saw skipper Suryakumar Yadav bring Arshdeep Singh back into the attack. But the move immediately backfired.

Quinton de Kock, in blistering form, launched the very first ball straight back over the bowler’s head for a six. Under pressure, Arshdeep attempted to drag his next deliveries wide outside off stump, but his execution collapsed entirely. What followed was a sequence of seven wides, turning the over into a staggering 13-ball fiasco.

The entire stadium transformed into chaos as the umpire kept stretching his arms, and the commentators struggled to keep pace with the confusion. With this, Arshdeep now jointly holds the record for most balls bowled in a single T20I over by a bowler from a Full-Member nation.

The Indian left-arm pacer now shares the top spot with Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq, who also delivered a 13-ball over against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2024. The second spot on the list belongs to South Africa’s Sisanda Magala, who bowled a 12-ball over against Pakistan in 2021.

For Arshdeep, whose T20I career features several impressive milestones, this record is one he would have hoped to avoid. Earlier, India had opted to bowl first on what appeared to be a batting paradise in New Chandigarh and Arshdeep, playing on his home turf, had started poorly, conceding 20 runs from his first two overs without a wicket in the powerplay and his return in the middle overs only worsened the outing.
