Team India doused South Africa by 52 runs in the final to lift the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup last Sunday at the DY Patil Cricket Stadium in Navi Mumbai. As one can expect, the historic outcome sparked a wave of jubilation across the nation, with fans taking to streets and social media to celebrate the team’s triumph.
The players also revelled in the moment, with many commemorating the victory in their own special ways. Harmanpreet Kaur, who became the third Indian captain to win an ODI Cricket World Cup after 1983’s Kapil Dev and 2011’s MS Dhoni, decided to mark the triumph with a deeply personal gesture.

Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, Team India won the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup despite finishing fourth on the league stage points table. The ‘Women in Blue’ even suffered three straight defeats at one stage of the tournament.
However, the Indian team responded back by outclassing defending champions and hitherto unbeaten Australia in a historic run-chase in the semifinal, with captain Kaur herself cracking a run-a-ball 89. Jemimah Rodrigues won the ‘Player of the Match’ award in the game for belting an unbeaten 127 from 134 balls with 14 boundaries.
Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma came to the fore on the day of the final, with both cricketers scoring half-centuries each and picking up seven wickets between them.
