The wait is almost over as the date is coming closer for all five Women’s Premier League (WPL) sides to submit their final retention list. The mega auction will take place at the end of November, and before then, all squads will release unwanted players, with only the best of the best retained.

With the deadline day just around the corner, rumours have started on which players might be retained, and according to ESPNCricinfo, the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Jemimah Rodrigues are set to be retained by their respective teams.

Reports also mentioned that the World Cup 2025 Player of the Tournament, Deepti Sharma, will be released by UP Warriorz after a disappointing WPL 2025 campaign. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have shockingly decided to release their skipper, Meg Lanning, as the Aussie will enter the auction pool.

  • In a surprising turn of events, UP Warriorz have decided to release the entire squad, except one - Shweta Sehrawat. The franchise has been a disappointment in the three seasons and they aim to start a fresh as the Warriors will try and build the squad from the scratch.
  • DC is also reportedly planning to retain their core squad, but Meg Lanning, who took the side to three consecutive finals will be released as she enters the auction pool.

WPL retention rules

As per the governing body, franchises can retain a maximum of three capped Indian players, two overseas stars, and a maximum of two uncapped Indian players.

However, in case a franchise decides to retain five players, then one of them should be an uncapped Indian player. Also, just like the IPL auctions, the WPL has also introduced the Right to Match Card (RTM) for the mega auction.

Moreover, each franchise has been allotted 15 crores for the mega auction, and the retention slabs are as follows: Player 1 (3.5 crore), Player 2 (2.5 crore), Player 3 (1.75 crore), Player 4 (1 crore), Player 5 (50 lakh).
