Kohli announced his decision on Instagram, just days before the selection of India’s squad for the important five-match series against England. The timing took many by surprise, leading to speculations that the decision might not have been entirely voluntary.
Over his illustrious career, Kohli played 123 Test matches, scored 8,195 runs, and hit 28 centuries, making him India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in Tests. As a captain, he led India to 40 wins out of 68 matches – the most successful Test captain in Indian cricket history.
