India Women’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has recently been in the news because of her postponed wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal. The couple was expected to get married on November 23 in Sangli, Maharashtra.
However, the wedding was suddenly put on hold after Smriti’s father became seriously unwell on the morning of the ceremony. While having breakfast, his health worsened, and he had to be rushed to the hospital.
Palash was also hospitalised around the same time. Both were discharged a few days later, but no new wedding date has been announced.
Smriti Mandhana avoids public event
Because of all this, Smriti Mandhana has stayed away from public events. She also skipped the shooting of a special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), even though most of the Indian women’s cricket team attended. The team, fresh from their ICC Women’s World Cup win, appeared on the show hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.
Players like Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Sneh Rana, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh, Shafali Verma, and coach Amol Muzumdar were seen on set. Their appearance has created huge excitement. However, Smriti’s absence was clearly noticeable.
Adding to the curiosity, Smriti deleted all photos and videos from her pre-wedding celebrations, such as haldi, mehendi, and sangeet, from her Instagram account. These pictures had earlier been widely shared online and showed that preparations were in full swing. Interestingly, her older photos with Palash are still on her profile.
Meanwhile, Palash’s sister, singer Palak Muchhal, confirmed through an Instagram Story that the wedding is “on hold” and requested people to respect the families’ privacy. Smriti herself has not given any public statement about the situation.
According to her manager, Smriti is extremely close to her father and does not want to continue with the wedding plans until he is fully healthy. For now, the family is focused on his recovery.
