The Australian cricket team secured their sixth ODI World Cup title on the eve of the finals without breaking a sweat against the unbeaten Indian side. After outclassing the Indian batters with the ball, Travis Head took care of the rest during the chase to close things out comfortably for his side.
Later, Pat Cummins collected the prestigious World Cup trophy from Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and kicked off the celebrations in style. However, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh crossed a line that has caused an enormous uproar on the internet.

In a particular picture widely shared on social media sites, Mitchell Marsh is seen placing his feet on the top of the World Cup trophy while sitting comfortably on a couch. He is using the souvenir as a table rest which irked the cricket fans situated in different parts of the world.
Many termed it as an act of total disrespect and ungratefulness. Meanwhile, Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela also joined the protest and called out Marsh for his distasteful gesture.
“Bro, show some respect to the World Cup trophy. Mitchell Marsh has put his feet on the top of it just to look cool,” Rautela wrote.
She shared the all-rounder’s viral images and urged him to show some respect towards the accolade. Rautela further called Marsh out and said his actions were totally uncool.
Mitchell Marsh’s gestures towards the prized possession have caused massive public outrage. The fans are protesting on social media, and as per multiple media reports, even an FIR has been lodged against the Australian cricketer over the alleged act of disrespect.
Having said that, Marsh or the Australian Cricket Board is yet to respond to the allegations. No player or personnel associated with the Aussies dropped their take on the entire controversy.
But with raging criticism and backlash, Mitchell Marsh is going to have to explain his actions at some point in the future. The matter is really sensitive and has hurt the sentiments of millions of cricket fans across the globe.
