In a heartwarming moment, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner and Bollywood mega star Shah Rukh Khan met Afghanistan cricketer Rahmanullah Gurbaz at a fun event in Dubai. The duo shared a warm hug and were captured together in a club. This meet comes just hours before the IPL 2025 retention deadline.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz is one of the most dynamic openers from Afghanistan who played an important role in his nation’s meteoric rise in world cricket. Afghanistan recently qualified for the semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup by beating giant nation Australia in the league stages, marking the beginning of a new era in Afghanistan cricket.

That being said, besides bringing pride to his nation, Rahmanullah Gurbaz has achieved a fair amount of success in franchise cricket, including IPL. He played the IPL 2024 finals where KKR were crowned champions. Naturally, Gurbaz shares a special bond with KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan.

He often describes himself as a big SRK fan and the duo were recently captured at an event in Dubai. In a video shared by the cricketer himself, SRK is seen warmly hugging Gurbaz and the duo spent some quality time together at an event in a Dubai club.

Interestingly, this visuals comes hours ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline. KKR, as defending champions, will be tasked to secure their winning core while simultaneously settling the finances. Hence, it remains to be seen if Gurbaz find a place back in KKR. Regardless of what might unfold, this bond between Gurbaz and SRK is unlikely to take a hit. 

KKR likely to move on from Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer, who captained KKR to a title finish in the IPL 2024 season, is unlikely to be retained for the upcoming season. As per multiple media reports, the defending champions are likely to prioritise Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Harshit Rana, and Andre Russell’s retentions. The only thing that can save Iyer from the mega auction is owner SRK’s intervention.
