It seems India’s captain has kept his ritual alive ahead of the Asia Cup as well. India will begin their campaign against the UAE on September 10, with the squad scheduled to reach Dubai between September 4 and 5. Ahead of the tournament, T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav was spotted at the Lal Bagh Darshan, seeking blessings before the big event.

SKY Seeks Divine Blessings!

Dressed in a white kurta and sporting a flashy golden watch, Suryakumar Yadav attracted attention as he offered prayers amidst a large crowd. This practice of visiting spiritual places before major tournaments is not uncommon in Indian cricket.

Earlier this year, before the IPL 2025 final, RCB captain Rajat Patidar was seen visiting temples for blessings, a move that preceded RCB’s historic title triumph. Now, Suryakumar appears to be following a similar path as he looks for divine support ahead of India’s Asia Cup challenge.

India's Asia Cup Squad Pcked With Power

While Suryakumar sought blessings, the focus on the cricketing front remained on Shubman Gill’s return to the T20 squad. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee ended all speculation by naming Gill vice-captain under Suryakumar.

The 25-year-old had been out of T20Is since July 2024 but forced his way back after a record-breaking Test series in England and a prolific IPL 2025 season, where he scored 650 runs at a strike rate of 155.

Gill’s comeback, however, has sparked debates around team balance. His inclusion at the top of the order puts Sanju Samson’s place under pressure, with wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma emerging as a stronger option in the middle order. Chief selector Agarkar clarified that Samson’s recent opportunities came in Gill’s absence, hinting at a reshuffle once the vice-captain reclaims his spot.
