The birthday celebrations were on point on December 27 as the Delhi Capitals left-hand batter Nitish Rana turned 32 hours after Delhi's close win over Gujarat in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy in Bengaluru. His state captain, Rishabh Pant, who is leading them for the tournament, was among the people with him during the birthday celebration on the night.

While the star batters play for different Indian Premier League franchises, a short break in international cricket meant Pant had a rare window to join Delhi, alongside Virat Kohli, to strengthen their chances to win the title. Rana, as well, has returned from a year away from Delhi, where he represented Uttar Pradesh in 2024/25. Here's how the birthday night was celebrated.

Pant smashes cake as Rana turns 32

In the early hours of Saturday morning, Pant took to his social media and posted a reel, where Rana was comically being pestered with a cake-facial by the captain himself, while another IPL star, Rahul Tewatia, was also at the scene. With two cakes in front of him, Rana got creamed by one as Pant sang the happy birthday song for him with a kiss on the head.

Just hours before the clock turned to midnight, Pant had scored a match-defining 70(79), and Rana got 12(22) and 0/17 (3) with the ball. The latter had also scored 77 in the previous match and 274 runs in 7 innings of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at a strike rate of 148.91.

Up next, they have 5 more league matches to go and sit at the top of the Elite D table in the VHT. Starting this season, Rana will represent his home IPL team, Delhi Capitals (DC), following his trade from Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the auction. He had scored 217 runs in 11 innings of IPL 2025 at a strike rate of 161.94.
