Former India Captain to return for CSK in IPL 2026
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni remains active in cricket despite retiring from international cricket. He will return to play for the CSK in the upcoming IPL 2026. Dhoni’s leadership has also been invaluable behind the scenes in Jharkhand cricket, helping the state team win its maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
In his last IPL 2025 outing, MS Dhoni captained CSK after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to an elbow injury. The team struggled, finishing last in the points table with 10 losses and four wins in 14 matches. Dhoni scored 196 runs, with a top score of 30 not out.
Looking ahead to IPL 2026, CSK strengthened their squad by acquiring Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals in a major player swap deal. In exchange, Chennai sent Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to RR. Samson will play for 'Yellow Army' at his existing INR 18 crore fee along side MS Dhoni.
