Bhopal-Based Fangirl Alisha Travels Miles To Cheer for Her Hero Babar Azam

The spirit of sportsmanship, symbolized in the excitement of the ongoing World Cup 2023, knows no boundaries. This sentiment was beautifully summed up by a 15-year-old teenager, Alisha, from Bhopal, who caught the internet's attention with her admiration for Pakistan captain Babar Azam.

Amid the raucous cheers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Alisha stood out. She was donning a green scarf and passionately waving Pakistan's flag while cheering for the team as they faced off against the Netherlands. Her journey to Hyderabad from Bhopal was driven by her eagerness to see one of her favourite cricketers, Babar, play live.

Her genuine display of sportsmanship not only highlighted Babar's international acclaim but also showed the nature of a sport that can bridge divides. The Pakistan team found unexpected yet heartwarming support from local fans like Alisha, who was accompanied by her mother in the stands.

Speaking to PTI, Alisha shared,"I have been a fan of Babar for the past four years. I started a fan page as well on social media but deactivated as I had to focus on my studies."

It seems the love for cricket is a family affair. Both her parents hold a special place in their hearts for Pakistani cricket legends Shahidi Afridi and Javed Miandad.

Emphasizing her Indian identity, she noted,"It is good to see that people are supporting both the teams. I am an Indian first and love the likes of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli but I also have the same love for Babar. I hope the relations between the countries get better one day."

The young fan’s plans aren't stopping at this match. She's keen on securing a ticket for the highly anticipated India versus Pakistan face-off on October 14th, hoping to witness the sporting giants battle it out on the pitch before she returns to her hometown.
